Well, I'd agree with anonymous, but I have a hard time using helicopter and airplane interchangeably. So, my vote is for the F-4. Air Superiority, Interdiction, Nuke Strike, Close Air Support, Interceptor, Pathfinder (Loran), Suppression of Enemy Air Defense, Recce, Aerial Demonstration and in at least one instance, Push Cart! Those were just USAF missions, my brothers in the USMC and USN can provide several more. Operated by 80 countries and 5000 copies made.
Love the Mosquito, but not in the same league.

Canberra did a few jobs in its time (> 50 years service !)

As did the F4

Lockheed C-130 Capable of short takeoffs and landings from unprepared runways, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation and cargo transport aircraft. The versatile airframe has found uses in a variety of other roles, including as a gunship, and for airborne assault, search and rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance, aerial refuelling and aerial firefighting. The Hercules family has the longest continuous production run of any military aircraft in history. During more than 50 years of service the family has participated in military, civilian and humanitarian aid operations.

C-130...it was and is a cargo plane, an electronic warfare platform, tanker, drone controller, and a fighter

DC-3. Since the 1930s it has done most everything a plane can do. And is still serving in some locales.

If you have no time limit, I'd say the most versatile plane ever built was the F4 Phantom.

F4 Phantom, without a doubt, handsome is as handsome does.
