Video: Neil deGrasse Tyson - We Stopped Dreaming

This is for everyone who doesn't understand why NASA was created and why so many people think it is imperative to continue supporting them.

There is no reason the private sector can't develop space travel. If it's not economic I don't want it. If you want to form a club and fund it, be my guest. I get nervous about 'conservatives' who oppose all government waste except for their own pet ideas.

Plenty of people still dreaming big, and acting on the dreams. The largest engineering-construction project ever, for all time so far, for all of humanity, is quietly happening in Northern Alberta, Canada - the tar sands projects. The best of the best in engineering and science from all over the world are working on it. The keystone XP pipeline is a tiny part of it.

The problem with giving money to NASA today is that it goes through Congress, who would steal, waste, re-direct 99 cents on the dollar.

Better to take a page from the wind and solar assholes. Startup funds and subsidies, one million for every soul lifted above the van allens.
Or a guarantee of zero taxes for one hundred years for all space profits.
There will be theft and graft, accept it, just try to get something back for the money.

Right. We can't dream about the future without a government department to point the way. What a load.

Listen to Obama - what do you hear? That nothing gets done without the government doing it. That's totalitarianism. That's socialism. It sure as hell isn't freedom. And this bozo is saying the same thing.

Tyson is being picked as the new "Carl Sagan". I believe it. Sagan was one of the first to really push for the politicization of science. His nuclear winter scenario was the father of global warming. James Hansen OF NASA has been a huge influence in the AGW movement.

The one thing NASA does great is PR as this video shows. What they really are is another wasteful government department.

You don't have to have NASA to dream about a modern future - you just have to kick the malthusians and Marxists off the college campus and bring in the technologists and free market capitalists instead. Then you'd see some real dreaming and some real accomplishments.
