Our wonderful country has been going down hill since the day he left office!! Will another "Gipper" come along before it is too late???

This was a man who loved this country and was proud to tell anyone who would listen. He was spontaneous, lovable, committed to excellence and created the desire to do better. Wish we had someone like that now! Lake Havasu City, AZ

this was a man that did not give any raises to the retired military all the time he was in office

I miss him so much. What a great Man. Last nite they were showing footage of President Obama, and I made the comment "What an arrogant man". To which my husband said you have to be arrogant to be President. I said no you don't! There is a difference between Strength and arrogance. President Reagan was humble but with Strength. Reagan's humble strength made him a respected leader. President Obama's arrogant weakness makes him the stepping stone for those who mean us harm.

The past always seems better. It was. Will there ever be another Reagan? sadly. No.
We loved him so much for his humor, humility, leadership and conviction. God bless America.

Oh yes Ronald did give retired military raises when he was in office! I'm a retired vet. But, our current Commander In Chief could take some needed lessons from President Reagan example!

It is the current jack*ss that is not giving retired military any cost of living raises! We got our new DFAS retiree statement, and will be getting the exact same as we got last year, to the penny! But you can bet your Social Security and Health Care that Haiti, any other country who wants to embezzle money, and the Congressmen who want to give themselves raises, etc, etc will get that!! The current jack*ass will give to any foreigner or congressperson what they want, or to any of his programs, but he hates retirees and wants to see them off the planet, literally. He thinks they are 'stealing' too much of the money he can be using for his pet programs, which are likely welfare ones. 'Feed the masses who won't work' programs.

We need a national holiday to honor this great president.

Loved him, loved his commitment to the best for America..We can't have him back but we can look very hard and commit ourselves to finding the right one for 2012, and pray for America.

For the last couple of years I have been saying the same thing. We need another man like Regan to run this next election and put right all the wrongs. However I have come to the realization that his kind are gone. He was from what we now call the "Greatest Generation" who went and truly saved this world from the greatest tryany in WWII. They where a generation that loved this country and cared more about doing what was right to make this nation stronger and better then about themselves. Sadly that generation is gone and what we are left with are progressively more self-serving generation. So in short we will never find another Regan, Lincon or Washington but hopefully we can find someone equal to the task at hand!

Ditto to what Vic said. We can't possibly do enough to thank our military, both retired and active duty. Are YOU willing to put your life on the line, and sacrifice time with your family, for the sake of our freedom, and the freedom of OTHER countries???

And Reagan was by far one of the greatest leaders our country has had. Obama doesn't even belong in the same league with Reagan. Even the people who voted for Obama do not respect him.

I remember the 8 years before President Reagan. This country did not have a good feeling about itself. People did not have much pride in the U.S.A We had a guy in office that didnt exude self confidence and everyone knew it. A bunch of muslims in Iran had the nerve to attack our embassy with no worries of retribution. When President Reagan came into office the world knew things were gonna be different. Things changed real fast because enemies and friends alike knew he wouldnt take their crap. Pride in this country exploded.

Amen to VETS. As far as Reagan, We will never get another. But we can strive for some one with similar Values. I believe Huckaby is as close as they come.

MY opinion

I was only in my teens when he was President, but he was the first President ever to inspire me by his words. He truly loved this nation and felt it was the greatest one on the planet. He was no apologist for this country and the values that have made it a great place to live. I do remember how the press hated the man. They wrote the vilest things about his wife, his intelligence, and his character. Now twenty some years later we see the wisdom of his remarks, ideas and actions. He may have been an actor, which enabled him to be the "great communicator" and could tell such funny jokes, but he did stand for a strong America and strong values. God Bless his family and Nancy. He's sorely missed!

Ronald Reagan showed enormous character and conviction. He made us all feel safe and good to be Americans again. I truly admired him more than any other. In fact our current president has also stated that he admired Reagan very much. Just hearing his voice again makes me feel good inside. Thanks for posting the video.

Vic, Thanks for saying what I was going to if I did not scroll down and see you did. I will help chip in for the ticket to the third world country. My son served in the mideast three tours so far. Enlisted me kept him alive and safe from harm. Every military person has my gratitude and respect for serving our country.

I've lived through a lot of presidents, from FDR to the socialist that's in there now. Ron Reagan was by far the best of the lot. He believed in this country and our way of life. The one we have now wants to CHANGE our way of life. Just you wait until you find out what that change is going to be.

Sarah Palin is the next Gipper !

Ronald Reagan will always be remembered as the Man who stood up to the communists. The liberals in this country never forgave him and to this day still despise him.

actually, social security did not get a cost of living raise this past year either. not that the cost of living didn't go up.

Mr. Reagan was elected just after I completed my 5 years commitment to the Army. I spent my 5 years as a junior Armor officer under his predecessor. There was no fuel to train effectively, no parts for maintenance, ammunition for training was doled out like fresh water in a lifeboat. I remember a bunch of Chinook helicopters coming apart in the desert in Iran. Wasn't a surprise to me.

I remember the media all a-flutter about how the Presidency had just become a job too big for one man to handle. Never heard that kind of talk when Mr. Reagan was President.

It just depends on the size of the man.

I don't know what he did or did not do for retiree's, but my classmates from West Point who were still on active duty all got real improvements in pay through the years he was President.

As an actor in Hollywood, Ronald Reagan believed so strongly in union representation for working people that he was elected president of his own union. And yet, when elected United States President, he broke unions-remember the air traffic controllers? Just something to think about.

Favorite Regan quote "you could say the Democrats spend money like drunken sailors, but that wouldn't be fair to drunken sailors... at least they are spending their own money."

Anonymous said...

I served our country through the military, then by striving to be an informed citizen supporting the policies, and yes, politicians in whom I could believe. Ronald and Nancy Reagan were our proudest achievement.

I voted for Reagan in '80 and '84 but came to regret it. He blew the biggest hole in our budget (deficit of 6% of GDP in 1983, and similar holes every year of his presidency) through spending increases and tax cuts, and helped create the current notion that all taxes are bad, and the government is the source of the problem. I consider it my patriotic duty to pay taxes to protect my rights and freedoms and to invest in the public education, investments, and services necessary for a great country. Yes, he can tell a good joke, and I laughed at these too. But let's not forget the huge hole that he created and continues to create through his myth. Indeed, Republican presidents since WWII have tended to have the highest deficits, while Democrats have had the lowest (or surpluses). See the numbers at http://www.davemanuel.com/history-of-deficits-and-surpluses-in-the-united-states.php and http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/federal_deficit_chart.html

He was just another Hollywood actor trying to play the part of the highest position that this country offers, the President of the United States. He was no better then most and surely worst then some others who held that position just ask the unionized air traffic controllers that he ran rough shod over when he made that debacle of a decision to fire them all, yah he was sure someone for the unions, not. His stature is about equal to that of "I am not a crook" Richard Nixon and another infamous actress "Hanoi traitor" Jane Fonda.

Seeing him makes me sick - like his jokes

You all seem to forget that it was Reagan's trickle down economics that started our financial downfall. He was also the one who armed the Taliban and we're still paying for that grand decision. How soon we forget!

AVOMAN said...

It was against the law for Air Traffic controllers to Strike and cripple the country. Reagan had the guts to uphold the law and protect the country and economy. He let Unions know that they can't hold our country hostage. Unions are 80% of the reason our country is out of work with all the past demands and pricing our labor out of the competition. The other 20% is EXCESS REGULATION AND TAXES which Reagan fought to limit. We had the longest economic growth in history because of Reagan. We just lost his vision and look where we are at. As far as the Taliban, Reagan never put up with terrorists. Under his administration he put cruise missiles right in Kadafi's home and you didn't here from him for years after that.
