Scott Ott brings the story of a Gorilla shot after a boy fell into an ape enclosure. It brings up deeper issues of animal welfare and the entire idea of zoos.
Should we have zoos? Maybe you could make a moral argument against it but can you therefore ban it? I don't think so any more than we can ban everything that someone dislikes. Let there be zoos. Let the anti-zoo people go somewhere else. Problem solved.

ReplyDeleteGorilla was agitated, and in spite of what you see on TV, tranquilizer guns don't act instantly.
ReplyDeleteGorilla get tagged, it hurts, he reacts. A chimpanzee, to say nothing of a gorilla, is strong enough to literally tear a child in pieces, easily.
Tranq gun wasn't an option in this case.
