The contract for more has been cancelled. The Chinese ballistic missile threat to shipping is forcing the USN to spend its money upgrading its Aegis cruisers/destroyers to antimissile capability.
A ship designed for a role the US Navy didn't want, doesn't want, and isn't prepared for. A ship the size of a cruiser to do the job any sane country would use a PT boat or corvette to perform.
Brilliant engineering, but IMO the wrong design for the job.

ReplyDeleteThis program has been under constant attack from right left and center. John McCain hates them. I would not bet on seeing more then a handful built.
