My wife and I caught The Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil last week.
Some reflections here. The full series (with photos and video) here. John Lennon was leaning Republican by 1980, which gave the production some extra appeal.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

Were they tappin the phones
were they stalkin and hackin
Eventually Murdoch
He started crackin
Indignation , abuse
...It was hurled
So Murdoch closed down
The News of the World
Chorus
No more spit roasts
Footballer news
Or vicars and ladyboys
At it on the pews
Or wags givin out
About call girls
She’s gone for ever
The News of the World
Give it a week
Because next Monday
Murdoch will launch
The Sun on Sunday
With much bigger boobs
all over page three
And a new journalistic
Standards Decree
Chorus
No more spit roasts
Footballer news
Or vicars and ladyboys
At it on the pews
Or wags givin out
About call girls
She’s gone for ever
The News of the World

Jerusalem Post columnist Sarah Honig reminds us in this piece that “Almost every demonizing and delegitimizing canard to which we have by now grown so inured had already manifested itself back in 1958.”
Honig’s exhibit A is this adversarial interview with the dovish Abba Eban conducted in 1958 by Mike Wallace. Only ten years earlier, Israel had miraculously, but narrowly, defeated 5 Arab armies intent on destroying the young state when she had just left the womb. Apparently, that was time enough for big media to dry its eyes and revert to type, because here we have Wallace (a passing Jew) in the vanguard, beta testing the same allegations, distortions and arrogance we are all used to seeing in the loathsome MSM today.

London, England
Yes, American readers there is an place in England called Sandwich and nearby there's a village called Ham. We at "Theo Spark" are not making this up. Seriously.
Last year I posted a photograph of the signpost below and here's the same signpost a year later.
For those of you who like golf, The Open starts nearby to this place next week. That's the tournament Tiger Woods isn't competing in. What a waste of a great talent and for what?
