Greek tragedy...............from Rico
Greek one year bond yields have shot over 100%. Their 2-year bonds have also rocketed.
- The "cost" of short-term financing for Greek sovereign debt has (like the old saw) 'like the little Greek boy who ran away from home, because he didn't like the way he was being reared." This will end badly. I'm thinking the public's butt, the politician's tallywhacker, and no lubrication this go round.
What does this mean? It means that denial is no longer just a river in Egypt, and that Papadopolis or whomever the current Prime Minister is is delusional if he believes his public statements (at best) and lying his ass off (at worst).
In simple English, the Greek economy is saying "Help! I've fallen, and I can't get up!"
The Fwench banks are providing their typical Gallic 'shrug' and preparing for their own massive banking fiasco, so their response is effectively "regrette, nien."
....and Germany, remembering Stalingrad, is preparing a "kesselring" around it's banking system.

Who gets crushed?.....................from Rico
After seemingly endless shipping of Euro's to Greece (it's actually only been a couple years since their governmental accounting fraud has been acknowledged), the one thing I still do not see much reporting of is the "so what?" part of the story. If you knew that part, a lot of the news you do hear would make a lot more sense....well, that's a bit much, the sense part so let's say you would have the proper 'context' to read between the lines of what you're NOT being told.
Who gets crushed WHEN (not IF) Greece defaults?
Look at who holds Greek Bonds:
- ECB 40 billion Euros
- Greek Banks $62.8 billion
- German Banks $22.5 billion
- French Banks $14.96 billion
- UK Banks $3.4 billion
- Italian Banks $2.35 billion
- US Banks $1.5 billion
- Spanish Banks $540 million
- JA Banks $432 million
This goes a long way to explaining "who" is circling the wagons now, and "why" this is being considered a 'crisis' for EUroland.

1938 all over again?............from Rico
Is it 1938 all over again?
- We should be so lucky.
The minimum wage in 1938 was $0.25, now it is $7.25...a 29-fold increase.
Gold was $35 per oz. in 1938, as I write this it's over $1,800 per oz., let's see x29 = $1,015.
The first graph attached is the longest view of Gold I have yet seen. It illustrates currency debasement perfectly.
[For Keynesians: Why is it called 'debasement'? Because when it happens, 'de value of 'de dollar goes to 'de basement.]
The second graph is this concept flipped on it's head.
When you look at it, consider that Gold may very well surpass $2,000 per oz.
Upon the founding of the US, $100 would buy 5.16 oz of Gold. Now it buys 0.05405 oz. of Gold.
- This is very GOOD for Gold owners.
- This is extremely CRUMMY for Dollar owners.
It's already 'worse' than 1938, and it's going to deteriorate from here.

Jewish Democrats Grasping at Straws.............by Dan Friedman
It had to come to this: desperate Jewish Democrats trying to leverage Obama’s “assistance” to Israel during the Egyptian siege of Israel’s Cairo embassy. As if Obama had a choice. Just think if the Israeli security guards were lynched or forced to kill a few would-be lynchers. The spotlight would have turned on Obama’s rash abandonment of Mubarak and the empowerment of radical Islamist elements in Egypt. As it is, that’s where the spotlight belongs.
