Quantity or quality?................from Rico
Setting-aside serious issues with the quality of 'facts' from known prevaricators also called BLS statisticians, government bureaucrats, the MSM or Politicians it's worth looking beyond the purported QUANTITY of jobs claimed by the latest NFP report but the QUALITY of those alleged jobs.
Full time-jobs are down <197,000> while part-time jobs are up +31,000
Now THAT'S some "change" you can 'believe in'...oh, wait, Barry's new slogan is "forward" (as in "dis here unemployment line is hardly moving forward").

John Keegan - R.I.P.
London, England
A re-post from No Pasaran
Good-Bye, Friend: RIP John Keegan; Keegan's Perspective on the Iraq War
posted by Erik @ 13:16
John Keegan has died (cheers to Instapundit), the military historian who is best known for The Face of Battle (I still treasure my college course book copy), although my own favorite is Warpaths: Travels of a Military Historian in North America:
Military history and geography explain each other in North America as nowhere else in the world. Award-winning historian John Keegan explores their relationship and examines the battles fought over three centuries between Frenchman and Indian, Royalist and colonist, Union and Confederacy.
Highly recommended. Keegan has been mentioned half a dozen times on No Pasarán. Back in June 2004, we quoted from his Daily Telegraph column:
What monopolises the headlines and prime time television at the moment is news from Iraq on the activity of small, localised minorities struggling to entrench themselves before full peace is imposed and an effective state structure is restored. The news is, in fact, very repetitive: disorder in Najaf and Fallujah, misbehaviour by a tiny handful of US Army reservists — not properly trained regular soldiers — in one prison. There is nothing from Iraq's other 8,000 towns and villages, nothing from Kurdistan, where complete peace prevails, very little from Basra, where British forces are on good terms with the residents.
A day earlier, I wrote a post mentioning his book, The Iraq War, and linking that year's D-Day commemorations to another anniversary from 2004:
… it turns out that there is another 60th birthday this year. That of the Ba'ath party. Yes. It was founded by a Syrian (a Christian, incidentally) in 1944.
I am currently reading a book by an author variously described as "our greatest modern military historian" and "the most readable and most original of living military historians". In The Iraq War, John Keegan does not only describe the military operations from March to April 2003, but gives the context and background of the Iraq conflict, from the history of Mesopotamia to the historic break between Sunnis and Shi'ites, from the fall of the Ottoman empire to the contemporary rivalries. What caught my attention (and what, if truth be told, got a flame of anger burning inside me) was the information on the last page of chapter 3 relating to the origin of the Ba'ath party.
Speaking of Saddam Hussein : "The nature of his régime owed more to twentieth-century ideologies of intolerance and systems of repression than to anything derived from the more distant past."
Speaking of Saddam's Ba'ath party: "Michel Aflaq, the founder of Ba'athism, had modelled the organization of his party on Hitler's Nazi movement, of which he was an admirer."
Let us remember the Iraqi citizens quoted in Steven Vincent's Reason article: "European and Arab journalists talk to us, but they don’t care about our happiness in being liberated. They only want us to make anti-American comments."

Week in Blogs: Reid, Prove That You Are Not a Transvestite! Plus, Dems I...
Is Obama going to start a hot dog chain called Pup-Fil-A? Find out. The Democrats think that millionaires should pay more taxes to help us be more like the People's Republic of China. Hear the details. Did Senator Reid have a Swiss-Miss weekend replete with lederhosen? Did the American media show disrespect for Poland's unknown soldiers?

Spending money.................from Rico

OK, I admit it...the "spending money" subj line was to get your attention.
- The topic is near and dear to every American's heart.
From my favorite collection of fakes, frauds and liars....er, statisticians at BLS, courtesy of yet another collection of fakes, frauds and liars at NPR is this infographic of how Americans spend money. The data is 'sliced' into three groups:
- poor
- middle class
- rich
There aren't really many surprises here. If you're poor you'll spend more on food and healthcare for example. Otherwise things are pretty level across the categories....except for one. Retirement savings.
- Saving for retirement is something worth looking at.

Chris Hayes, the Jacobin at MSNBC
Here's the inside scoop on the f-king radical cable news host, Chris Hayes.

Amazingly, Hayes claims that his network is "objective" and "mainstream," in contrast to Fox News, which he argues is ideologically conservative, essentially Republican in its partisan agenda. And that tells you something: Progressives like Hayes live in a rarefied intellectual milieu in which all other media phenomena are biased or extreme, outside of the appropriate centrist meme. That's an illusion, of course, and it's fueled by a foundation of the hard-left intellectualism that Hayes cites as teeth-cutting ideological fodder --- the ideological Gatorade of the academy. And his agenda is obviously marketable to large numbers of people who question the historic model of mobility in America, and the constitutional priority of limited government that favors the individual. Yet Hayes is too smart to come out hitting like a revolutionary firebrand and vanguard of the proletariat. But that doesn't mean he's not actualizing that role in his perch at the far-left network MSNBC.

Statistical jobs aren't real jobs....................from Rico
There are a lot of things that sound pretty good in theory, but absolutely do not work in practice.
Statistics may be a good case in point.
The NFP aka "jobs report" sounded pretty good, yet unemployment slightly rose from 8.2% to 8.3%....how is that possible?
- Easy. LIE.
Unemployment.
Let's get the phoney 'headline' unemployment number out of the way first.
- The U3 number of 8.x% does NOT include everyone that is unemployed. It sounds better, actually MUCH better than the 'real' unemployment number...the U6 number...which is in reality running just over 20%/just under 25%.
NFP (jobs report).
The 'happy headlines' today say the US added 163K jobs in July. Up from 133K last month.
Hooray? No, horse-hooey!
- The non-seasonally adjusted July number was a 1.248 million jobs drop from June.
- BLS 'added' 377K statistical jobs for "seasonal" purposes...the largest such seasonal addition in the past ten years.
- The Birth/Death (BD) adjustment then gets us to today's 'headline' number...but the BD adjustment was 1,000% higher than last month's BD adjustment.
In short: it was ALL statistical fakery [read: a LIE].
'Statistical' jobs simply are NOT 'real' jobs...unless it's a Presidential election year.
- The lies won't be of any help to you, happy voter, as you try to acquire that coveted MacDonald's cap in today's job market.

Obama's "Buyer's Remorse"...................by Dan Friedman
[In a twist of fate (and an old anecdote) Obama will soon be crying “if only I hadn’t disrespected Bibi.” The president, filled with himself, thought he could bring Israel to heel by showing it the back door in 2010. But how swiftly the tables have turned. On the eve of our elections Obama needs Israel more than they need Obama. That old bond of trust between the two “allies” has gone and, as long as Obama’s occupying the White House, that’s the way it’s going to stay. But for Israel it’s all a blessing in disguise. Now they know what they need to do, when they need to do it, and that their fate is in their own hands. By virtue of Islamophilia, hubris and animus, Pharaoh Obama has lost his ability to control the Jewish state. df]
