I wonder who I write to suggest names for CVN-79... I do not like naming carriers for recent Presidents, living or dead.....

Just think... generations from now men might tell their grand children "I served in Hillary Clinton {shudder}.

I think names like USS Liberty or Doolittle would be preferable. And even though we have a ship named for Winston Churchill, I think Victory should not be considered for the name of an American ship... It's just a matter of respect.

We've had this before Theo. We can't crew these things. Our CVSs are running with gapped billets and they complement 1100. These yank carriers run with nearer 5000 fully complemented.

Press gangs! should solve the problem. There again if we start buying some serious kit for the forces people may want to be part of it.

We get plenty of people wanting to be a part of it...Recruitment is up, retention is our big problem. We don't spend enough time on basic training, therefore we send people to sea keen and positive. They get to us at sea and they haven't had enough training. This comes as a bit of a shock to them! Then they have to deal with going from Travelodge style accom during training, to going to a 40 man messdeck 3 pits high and a trek up a ladder to get to the heads and bathrooms. Myriad other issues. Sorry for the rant.... Been doing this for 21 yrs, still love it and would reccomend it to anyone. Supprt from those who hold the purse strings, and we'll give you the Navy of old.

Darkpixel - How about the USS Coca-Cola Presented by Careerbuilder.com? These things are supposed to sail around the world for 70 years, the naming rights should be worth something.
