To do what, exactly? Cock-up the entire economy? Destroy the military? Do anything, anything at all, with a measure of competence?
Note that when things were going well the benign global economy wasn't mentioned - it was all down to his prudence and good stewarding. Now that things are going wrong we have, "GLOBAL downturn this, GLOBAL crunch that ..."
