i went to memphis a few years back and saw the memphis belle there...it was amazing to not only see the plane but be able to touch it...the stories behind it were incredible and just knowing i had touched a part of it was unlike anything else i have experienced...sorry the pictures just brought it to mind this morning...
My recently deceased father flew a DC-3 variant as a US Navy Lieutenant in the Vietnam war. He told me stories as a boy of carrying things such as two live Bengal tigers, crates of $100 bills, and a trip inland to retrieve an Admiral's favorite dessert.
I still remember the silly grin on his face when he showed me the aerial photos he had taken of the USS Enterprise from which he was based and said "Landing on an aircraft carrier is more exciting than sex!"
