It is difficult to believe how old both of these fine, classic aircraft are. The B17 is over 60 years old and the B52 is 50 years old. It is also difficult to believe that their designs are only about 15 years apart.

Beautiful picture.

It's diificult to believe that the B-52H is still planned to be active in 2040 - that means the youngest one will be 78 years old. Although how much of the original aircraft wil be remaining is a moot point. Amazingly, given the average aircraft flies about 250 hours per annum most will still have plenty of airframe life left even then. Of course, WW2 era aicraft had a much lower fatigue life - for example, the Lancaster was designed for a flying life of just 40 hours.
