Many brave men (~1,500) died on the Hood in the quest to sink the Bismark. (I think there were three survivors.)

The British Navy knew the Bismark had all of the advantages in terms of speed, fire power and armor. They also knew what would happen in the Atlantic if the Bismark was not sunk.

Fortunately, the antiquated torpedo plane scored a hit on the rudder and we know the story.

It is Memorial Day here in the USA. I for one would like to salute all of the men and women who gave the full measure of devotion to the cause of freedom.

Now it is our responsibility to protect and maintain freedom so they did not die in vain.

HMS Hood is a hallowed name. Darkpixel's link is fantastic.
