'Possibly' the best movie theme of all time....

...just listen. I think a week of movie themes is in order. Send them over especially as this is Memorial Weekend. I remember watching 'A Bridge Too Far' when it came out and left the cinema in tears. I later did it for my 'O' level history project. It was an amazing, if slightly ambitious op, but you don't win without a little bit of 'lets go for it'. So let us all take a moment to remember all those who fell in the pursuit of freedom. It is ours and we must continue to fight for it.

Great film too (even if it basically depicts a massive, ultimately British military blunder, which cost tens of thousands of lives and put the end of the war back). And look at the cast. I don't think I've ever seen a film with so many big names.

Do you mean the German Underground Hospital in Jersey? Maybe there's one in Guernsey too.
Anyway, it's an amazing place. We used to go on our hols in Jersey each summer and we went there a few times. Really spooky.

I've visited the German Underground Hospital in Guernsey.
With hindsight, Market Garden was a strategic blunder as priority ought to have been given to clearing the River Scheldt earlier in order to bring Antwerp into use sooner to increase supplies. But Britain was worn out and needed a rapid, if high-risk, end to the war.
Here's a link to the heroic but almost forgotten contribution of the Canadians in the Battle of the Scheldt.

The best scene in the movie is when the German general runs away thinking the British paratroopers are after him.

Awesome movie.

While I enjoy the film, unfortunately it is difficult for many not intimately familiar with the operation to follow it. This is because there are three or four different dramatic focuses.

There is a great, new huge monster wargame out from MMP called The Devil's Cauldron.
