A couple of more Seaplane shots....I wonder if the Spruce Goose could be made viable today with the technology we have.

I doubt it. The thing is a monster. Email me when you come to Oregon to check out Evergreen Aviation and their museum, and the Spruce Goose. I will buy you a nice microbrew at the local McMenamins. (I sent you those PG reaper pix)

The amazing thing is that it flew at all.

Why not build a Saro Princess instead? It was a much better aircraft, the true successor to the Short Empire boats.

it may have been viable then with their technology they just would not let him use aluminum and made him build in wood.

The Spruce Goose was the victim of too little power available at the time. No problem now; turboprops got more than enough power for it.

A bigger problem, really, was the end of the war. That and the willingness of just about every nation on earth to pave over half their land area to accept the early jet transports, rather than deal with the problems of berthing flying boats.

Pity about that, really.

Where did MY comments go?

I agree with Steve's comments; With today's technology, it'd be child's play, really. I think we lost something when the flying boats disappeared from the scene.
