Flamethrowers are always good. What a lovely scream they make too.
The cannon on the B25s - de Havilland tried a similar idea with Mosquitos. A 6 pound gun in the nose for anti-shipping duty. There weren't many and they didn't carry much ammunition.
Rocket pods were more popular as you didn't have to fly straight at your target for quite so long as with the 6 pounder, they didn't come with a substantial weight penalty and were not a permanent fixture on the aircraft.

Just was thinking...to many of our contemporaries...the idea of arming for war is a foreign concept.
