What ever happened to 'hood' ornaments......

Theo, the 'ornaments' caused some horrific injuries in accidents and were eventually done away with, and not before time because they were just plain bloody stupid projections to spear any pedestrian etc already unlucky enough to be taking a trip toward the windscreen/A pillar of a car.
Some car makers spent millions making the damn things spring loaded or whatever, but most just got rid!
they were deemed to be dangerous.... so if you need an ornament copy Theo and other farmers and put a bloody great bale spike on the front.... that seems to be not dangerous at all. :-)
I never knew they caused injuries. I thought they went away because too many adolescents thought they made cool necklace ornaments.

My Grandfather once impaled the village Bobby on his Bentley's 'Flying B'. He even got away with it as the Bobby should not have been cycling up the middle of the road!!
Yeah, the rest of the car hitting you only leaves nicks and cuts, but watch out for that hood ornament
Anon of 15:58 - you haven't got it, have you? If you do get hit by a car then you are in trouble, but the last thing you need as your legs break and you start folding toward the bonnet is a damn great projection just where your little pink body is going to come down. The worst I ever saw was a lady who had, right in the middle of her bonnet, a chromed 12 point stags head of about 6 inches across - now if you want to come down on that be my guest, I don't!
And don't take it so lightly until you've come across some kid who has bounced across the front of a car, hit the 'mascot', hit the windscreen wipers and then the windsceen (especilly with the 'old fashioned' glass)so they now have a face like a jigsaw puzzle - bloody good riddence to all bonnet ornamentation!

I suppose you're also in the 'speed limits must be reduced, because less people die at 10mph' brigade. Sod teaching kids road awareness, just bring back the man with the red flag walking infront of all vehicles..

Todays 'hood ornament is pants around the knees showing your special underwear or on a deadlier note it would be a 9 as in 9mm pistol or MAC-10 as in machine pistol.
