I'd argue a better way is "Use a knife in a crime, go to jail. Period." A knife is far too handy a tool to simply give up on.
I have to disagree with you Theo:
I have carried a knife all day, every day since I was a nipper & have never committed a crime with it.
It's a tool, pure & simple.
Because I prefer to use tool with safety features, it has a locking blade & this, in the eyes of the Nanny State, is a heinous crime, worthy of a prison sentence despite the blade being less than 3" long.
The Law on knives doesn't need to be tightened. It needs simplified: Use a knife to threaten, injure, or cause criminal damage & you go to jail.
Don't blame an object; blame the person who misuses it & the Idiots In Charge should stop calling it "Knife Crime" & call it murder, wounding with intent, or whatever REAL crime a knife is misused for.(Sorry about the rant but I feel much the same way about firearms).
