Heh - one of the many reasons why Hardend Aircraft Shelters around the world have "BEWARE OF PITOT TUBE" stenciled on their doors.

More than one inattentive airman "got the point" from a 102 or other "Century" fighter when walking into a darkened HAS.

Not that great of an interceptor. Like the B-47, it was a stop-gap until the real thing, i.e., the F-106, came into production. It was use, briefly, in Southeast Asia, including Thailand and South Vietnam. As far as I know, it never got a kill; maybe never had a real engagement with the enemy. It couldn't dog fight.

and you can tell it's not an F-106 because it doesn't have a "Coke Bottle" fuselage...

F-106 was a beautiful airplane that could fly circles around an F-15, if the F-15 had center line tanks on.

The initial F-102 model didn't have Area Rule (coke bottle contour), and it couldn't exceed Mach 1 in level flight.

The F-102A did, and could. It was the first Century Series fighter to prove the area rule worked in practice. The F-106 was originally going to be the F-102B, with a bigger engine and some other tweaks. It was Mach 2 capable.

The easiest way to tell the F-102 from the F-106 is the vertical stab, the F-102 is a triangle, the F-106 is cut off straight near the top. Also, the air intakes on the F-102 are under the cockpit, those of the F-106 are well aft of the cockpit.

What's this? One helluva landing.

For Anonymous: Actually the F-102 was the "Pioneer" airplane using area rule i.e. "Coke Bottle" fuselage. That's the only way Convair could get it to go supersonic in level flight.

You can't see the license plate, but it says "My second plane is a Convair too".
