The head wrap worn by Sikh was originally a poor man's helmet. Gotta make due when what you have on hand when in a logistically constrained situation.

Which made sense when one was {hopefully} fighting an enemy with dull swords - but empty plastic bottles? pastries & Saran Wrap? a paving stone? a laundry basket? {The cardboard box over the turban looks as though it would offer SOME protection ;-) }
