On Libya, Obama is AWOL...............by Dan Friedman

Mubarak was a sick, old man on the way out and a pussycat as tyrants go, and Obama’s seeming indecision as the Egyptian crisis wore on wasn’t out of confusion or vacillation. It stemmed from intelligence (sic) reports he was receiving that showed the situation was in flux. However, once it became clear which way the wind was blowing and Mubarak would fall, Obama got behind the wave and rode it to shore. What a guy! Heck, he’s practically a neocon.

Now comes the hard part. Gaddafi is the genuine article, a bloodthirsty Arab lunatic who sits on a lot of oil. He’s facing a popular uprising inspired by Egypt’s and has already killed scores of his own people, threatening to fight to the end. What’s the leader of the FREE world to do? Apparently nothing.

Then Obama has achieved a "Competent" Level on the US Presidential level. Doing nothing, at least overtly, is exactly the correct political decision. Libya is not part of the USA despite having oil (surprising for some Americans...) and therefore Mr Obama has no right or duty to intervene in its internal conflict. Indeed, if history has taught us anything it is that when the USA goes rampaging around being the "Leader" of the free world it tends to piss everyone off and drive them into the hands of Islamists and Communists. Either nuke the entire Middle East (rational albeit messy)or stay out.
