Budget cuts, outmigration, increasing criminal activity, there are now areas where 'first responders' (Police, Fire. EMT) will NOT go to.
The remaining citizens are left to fend for themselves and are quite on their own (population levels there are now near those of 1910).
The result? = self-defense killings are 2,200% above the national average.
It is actually 'safer' in Iraq or Afghanistan....

I like to think of Detroit as excess inventory.
I think we have too many "developed areas" in this country. The reason for the metroplex of Detroit was for steel, cars, terrible sports teams.
Now that they have all faded; what is the need for the developed area?
Just like Sears, or Penny's, or even Walmart....when a store become unproductive or costs too much to maintain....they leave the brick and mortar building and build a new store somewhere else. Then the old store becomes either a boarded up hulk or a tatoo parlor.
Same with a city....the need for that city, Detroit, is gone. The reasons for its existence are gone.
So don't cry for this dinosaur.....let it go.

I live in Detroit and Rico's stats are pretty much on point. However, no President deserves any credit. We Detroiters have done this to ourselves. From fat, sclerotic car companies and unions that wouldn't change in the face harsh reality, to a lazy party, Democrats, that have no competition and thus no need to come up with ideas, to a citizen body that too often voted for local celebrities instead of responsible fellow-citizens (thus a recent city council of clowns and criminals) has led Detroit to mutilate itself over the years and avoid reality.
No President, Congress or State Government will pull this city up. Only it citizens can!
