it's a Convair 580, modified by Calspan of Buffalo, NY. The mods include the Variable Stability System "VSS" and Simulated Cockpit "SimCock". There are other noses that can be installed as well as a variety of "special" equipment that is inside. The aircraft can be made to mimick the flight characteristics of many other planes, including the space shuttle.
