On the anniversary of the December 7th sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese that brought the United States into WWII, this article has the story and pictures of the miraculous survival of a B-17 hit over Tunis, Tunisia during the Battle of Tunisia in February, 1943.

It sure would be nice if the picture was big enough to see what it is. Ok, it's an airplane (I think)
It's a B-17 [Flying Fortress] with very severe damage. The tail is held on by control cables, yet it brought the crew back safely. Matin Caiden's book Flying Forts has a bigger picture, and notes "The impossible survival ... Cut almost in half by a german fighter, [this} Fortress flew 90 minutes back to it's home base, landed safely, and broke in two after landing."
