I was struck by your mentioning that we don't know which way we are going. The truth is false, right is wrong, etc. This condition - an atomized society - was first identified by Hannah Ardent in “The Origins of Totalitarianism”.
Tyrants need a society that can’t tell fact from fiction. In this state nothing is true and simultaneously anything is possible. In this condition tyrants can spin their lies, marginalize the good and promote the vile. If this is truly the condition in the UK good people need to get organized before it’s too late.
