Gorilla was agitated, and in spite of what you see on TV, tranquilizer guns don't act instantly.
Gorilla get tagged, it hurts, he reacts. A chimpanzee, to say nothing of a gorilla, is strong enough to literally tear a child in pieces, easily.
Tranq gun wasn't an option in this case.
Should we have zoos? Maybe you could make a moral argument against it but can you therefore ban it? I don't think so any more than we can ban everything that someone dislikes. Let there be zoos. Let the anti-zoo people go somewhere else. Problem solved.
