In WWII the US Army/military had the distinction of noncombatant civilians running to them for protection and safety.
This has been inverted, like everything else Obama and Team Obama has touched.

In Syria (which Team Obama collapsed as a farewell present to Team Trump and the World) 8,000 Alawites have fled to a Russian base for safety and protection from the murderous Jihadist unleased upon them by the disposal of Assad by Clown World.
The US still has 2,000 troops in Syria, but Syrian Christians do not think it's wise to run to the US Base for safety and protection.
= On the ground: Syrians see the Russians as the "Good Guys" and the Americans as nothing of the kind.
