The decision to stop making pennies was long overdue.
- It's simply NOT worth spending $60 million annually to produce what has become a worthless zinc slug.
RECOGIZE THE PATTERN.
Once pennies were monetary coins.
- In 1793 the first penny was minted of pure copper and weighed 13.48 grams.
- It was reduced to 11 grams in 1795, and in 1856 reduced further to 5 grams.
- In 1864 it was reduced to 3 grams and included 5% tin and zinc.
From coins to tokens.
- In 1982 ALL the copper was replaced with zinc disguised with a 'copper wash' while most never noticed that they had become worthless slugs with no intrinsic value.
The Dollar is in the batter's box, and is next up.
