I never knew, and doubt very many (if any) did at the time.
Back when TV had three channels and was broadcast in black & white, George Burns he comedian had a TV show with his straight-man Gracie Allen...it may have been the Burns & Allen show, but I forget.
What I remember was George's line "A woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke."
He 'borrowed' that from one of my favorite writers Rudyard Kipling.
Who knew?
Both Burns and Kipling would be enough to twist the nose-rings of the purple-haired harpies of today.
- Egad I miss the "good old days!"
