Korea Update ..................from DJ Elliott
US Deploys Carrier Strike Group, US Air Force to Western Pacific
Accelerated deployment for Vinny, they were supposed to deploy after the holidays...
Information Dissemination write........
So if I am some North Korean intel analyst looking at this - what am I looking at?
I see this rather enormous George Washington (CVN 73) Carrier Strike Group escorted by a rather large and capable number of US and South Korean Navy warships exercising in my front lawn. I am also observing this ultra modern Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group deploying from the US west coast, heading my way under what looks to be a completely unique deployment schedule that just might be coming quickly specifically because of me.
Oh btw, more than half the Japanese fleet is either at sea or on high readiness, and the US Air Force is quietly positioning capabilities that will really hurt if the shooting happens. In the context of the South Korean Presidents speech, I might be a little concerned.
As I look at this, I see an opportunity for the US and allies to increase the pressure and make moves that put a bit of fear back into the North Koreans for a change. I do not think it would be a bad thing for the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) to go dark and start heading towards the strait. I can think of some interesting places for that Carrier Strike Group to pop up all of a sudden to make a strategic announcement of presence. It seems to me that the more pressure the North Koreans feel right now, the more China is empowered in influencing North Korea. China has let editorials critical of North Korea run in the daily papers all week - something we never saw following the Cheonan incident.
There is an opportunity here - one that makes China a partner while also allowing us to stand strong with South Korea. How does it come together? I see many possibilities, and if I was writing the script I would start writing it with this deployment of the Carl Vinson CSG - with its unique ships and unique deployment pattern, and perhaps a bit of unique strategic communication to go a long with it aimed at the North Koreans.

Watch Ireland.........from Rico
It is worth keeping an eye on Ireland.
Dec 7th the voters there have the chance to refuse the IMF 'deal' or 'bail out' or 'sell out'...
I did rather like the Irish protest sign regarding the IMF. Interfering, Meddling, F.....
EXACTLY.
- Their ruling elite may not 'get it' but the man in the street surely does!

Video: Firefight in Marjah (Real Time) Bad Ass!!
"The former commander of United States forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McCrystal, once described the fight in Marjah as a bleeding ulcer. Situated to the East of the Helmand River valley, this fertile network of farm lands has long been a key stronghold of the Taliban. But that control is now being challenged. US Marines from Echo Company, 2nd Battalion 9th Marines, have been in Marjah since June and are waging and winning a fight that is not unfamiliar to them; a fight the soldiers of 1st Platoon describe as a "good old fashioned turf war". This video clip filmed on the morning of the 28th September 2010 is a real time, multi-camera view of one such fire-fight where elements of 1st Platoon are ambushed by Taliban fighters in the eastern sector of their area of operations."

Poor Ireland...........from Rico
First it was the Greeks abused and bloodied by the bond-raiders and the IMF. Their "bailout" only made their governmental malfeasance worse, and will prolong their inevitable default. Saw today that they have been 'rescheduled' to 2021 or some farcical date in future. Keynesians and Politicians doing what they do best (after screwing-over their followers)...kicking the can down the road.
Now it's Irelands 'turn' to be sold down the river and treated like the proverbial little Greek boy who ran away from home because he didn't like the way he was being "reared" [excuse me, I just could not help that one]!
Having the IMF for a partner is much like having a sexual predator for a guardian.
- Ireland's "gift" is indeed a modern Trojan [don't go there] Horse. They are screwed.

Reason TV: Have California Democrats Turned Their Backs On Social Justice? A Conversation with Chris Reed
Democrats are supposed to work towards the goal of social justice, right? So why is it that so many policies supported by California Democrats end up harming poor people and minorities?
Reason.tv's Paul Feine sat down with journalist Chris Reed to talk about public employee unions, welfare reform, Walmart, the drug war, and environmental regulations.

Video: Born of Nuclear Blast: Russia's Lakes of Mystery
What healing properties does a sweet lake possess? How can you wash clothes in a lake without soap? Can a lake serve as a salt reserve? The diversity of lakes located in Russia and CIS countries can amaze anyone. Artificial and natural, nuclear and hostile to all advanced forms of life, they present a truly motley picture.

Lincoln pennies from Washington............from Rico
Nope, not pennies from heaven but pennies from Washingtoon!
Only government could screw this up.
Pennies, familiar to everyone, featuring Abraham Lincoln on the face since 1909. One one-hundreth of a dollar.
They used to be copper, and if you have one today from 1982 or earlier, their metal content/melt value for that copper is $0.0247641 (almost two and a half times the face value, and almost as much as it costs the government to coin them).
The pennies were changed to zinc after 1982, but 'washed' to look like copper. Mostly nobody noticed. While it did not change the cost to coin them very much, the government DID save big on the metal content end of things...these faux pennies are worth $0.0056349 [read worthless content]. Zinc is pretty cheap.
Not content to merely produce over-priced worthless goods (pennies), the current gooberment misadministration has 'improved' the design for 2010, removing the Lincoln Memorial from the reverse and replacing it with a truly crap-tastic design that reminds me a lot of a bus token.
- Worthless, nondescript, uninspiring, namby-pamby, and lacking any aesthetic merit....much like our current socialist regime.
I can hardly wait until they emulate the inspired former-Soviet modes of architecture. There are quite a few go-by's they can copy from that haven't completely crumbled yet.
Assclowns!

WikiLeaks U.S. Embassy Cables Release
Blazing Catfur has the key headline: "Wikileaks Diplomatic Cables Released by Times, Der Spiegel."
Here's this at NYT, "Cables Obtained by WikiLeaks Shine Light Into Secret Diplomatic Channels." And I love this at Spiegel: "A Superpower's View of the World." And Doug Mataconis has a report: "Wikileaks Releases Diplomatic Cables, Revealing International Secrets." (Via Memeorandum.) I've commented on WikiLeaks extensively. I won't think twice if Julian Assange meets the cold blade of an assassin, and apparently a significant number of others don't care for the guy. See the WikiLeaks Twitter page and Hot Air: "Wikileaks servers under DOS attack ahead of diplomatic document dump" (with lots of updates). I continue to be amazed at the fawning credibility Assange gets on the progressive left. Anything that tears down the military --- even putting at risk the lives of Americans and our allies --- is totally cool with these freaks. But maybe something good will come of all this, in the end.

McCain Wants Regime Change in North Korea
Well it's about time: "John McCain Calls for Regime Change in North Korea." I suggested we topple Pyongyang last week. Does anyone have any backbone these days? I'm not holding my breath, especially with these pantywaists: "Foreign Policy's Top 100 Global Thinkers."
More throughout the day at American Power.
