The Secret Of Palestine

Easy to exaggerate how central the Little Satan-Palestinian issue is (trust us!!)

Solving the Palestinian problem would take care of every global challenge from climate change, Lindsay Lohan, Chinese hegemony, to the flu. But would it, really?

"Take Iraq, the biggest American investment in the Greater Middle East over the past decade. That country's Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds are divided over the composition of the new government, how to share oil revenues, and where to draw the border between the Kurdish and Arab areas. The emergence of a Palestinian state would not affect any of these power struggles.

"Soon to surpass Iraq as the largest U.S. involvement in the region is Afghanistan. Here the U.S. finds itself working against, as much as with, a weak and corrupt president who frustrates American efforts to build up a government that is both willing and able to take on the Taliban.

"Again, the emergence of a Palestinian state would have no effect on prospects for U.S. policy in Afghanistan or on Afghanistan itself.

"Well, the truth is that the character of the American people is dramatically different. At the time of the Great Depression, the American people were tough, self-sufficient people who knew how to live off the land. Today, most Americans are weak, spoiled little children who will throw a temper tantrum whenever anyone tries to take their toys away. The character of the American people has been decaying for decades, and there is no way that the current crop of Americans has any chance of weathering a horrible economic depression the way Americans back in the 1930s did." ANZAC Day post.

I realise its late but with that time zone thing its not too far behind.

Sadly we also lost three air force personal when their Iroquois went down in low overcast and high winds.

It serves to remind all that what we do is dangerous on a good day and we didn't stop doing it after Gallipoli. There is always media comments to effect that the old soldiers are dying off and this will eventually reduce ANZAC Day attendances. In reality the numbers continue ton increase both in New Zealand and Australia because we remain active in armed conflicts and will continue to do so. We are not just remembering those who died in the two media approved wars, but in all wars and even in "peace time".

My ANZAC remembrances encompass one great great uncle who served in South Africa, seven who served in First World War winning two Military Medals between them and managing to avoid becoming casualties at Gallipoli including the legendary fight for Chunuk Bair. Eight great uncles and my grand father who volunteered to confront tyranny in the Second World War. On occasion when we are in the same place I stand next to my father who served through 37 1/2 years of the subsequent "peace" which means he served in two wars, three "police actions" and two "emergencies" and one crisis. In particular for Stephen David James Pickworth and Hohepa Anthony Timutimu. Professional soldiers.

ANZAC POEM

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the RSL,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his mates;
They were heroes, every one.

Although sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his mates listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Bob has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife..
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'Tho a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.

It's so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys,
Went to battle, but we know,

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier--
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honour
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days..

Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

CHANGE.................from Rico

Now this is some CHANGE you can believe in. Sadly, you just won't hear the talking-heads of Financial TV, any of the MSM, or any politician who covets reelection to their spot at the public trough talking about.

The first chart shows:
- in 1980 US residential mortgage debt was $1 billion
- by 1990 it was $2 trillion
- by 2000 it was $5 trillion
- by 2008 it was $10 trillion
....can you spot the trend? [Read: debt now exceeds equity]

The second chart shows that in 1945, total hoe equity vs. value was about 80%...pretty high. Today it is pretty bad, having reversed/inverted.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Inflation happened. A significant percentage of the Dollar's purchasing power has been eroded by inflation. One dollar in 1914 = $21.95 in 2010 in terms of purchasing power.
- Stupidity happened. The "worst generation" (boomers) have managed to kill the system...the golden goose...that was left to them by the "greatest generation." Smugly stupid best describes the behavior of my generational cohort...but I'm trying to use polite words here and not say things like "what were you thinking you dope-addled dumbshits?"
