Will Obama Shutdown the Government?

Everywhere you look this morning, the media is raising the specter of another “GOP shutdown” of the federal government over the President’s executive amnesty plan. I have looked at all over the news and not once have I seen an article about the possibility of Obama shutting down the government over amnesty. Is it even remotely possible that we are seeing a bit of media bias here?    (continue reading)

Snails....................................from Rico

In the classic film "Apocalypse Now" the character Col Kurtz (played by Marlon Brando) describes a nightmare he has "...a snail crawling along the edge of a razor."
- That is what I thought of when reading Ted Cruz's remarks about 'the internet operating at the speed of government' [read: snail's pace].

Not being "broken" the last thing the internet needs is for the government to "fix" it. That lie is merely to distract the sheeple from the fact that government wants to CONTROL it, not fix it, and TAX it (making it a new source of revenue).
- At least Barry aka 'the Won' hasn't said "If you like your internet, you can keep your internet. Period." yet.............

As U.S. Nukes Lay Wasting, America's Enemies Bulk Up the Strategic Readiness

See, "As Global Strategic Threats Intensify, U.S. Nuclear Arsenal at Risk of Becoming Anachronism."

A lot of problems with the U.S. strategic nuclear force.

At LAT, "Major overhaul of nuclear force planned to improve security and morale."

And also, "As U.S. nuclear arsenal ages, other nations have modernized":

As Russian forces were drawing back from a swift and violent incursion into Ukraine this fall, Moscow was delivering another powerful military statement many miles to the north.

A new 40-foot Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of delivering an unparalleled 10 nuclear warheads, was launched by a Russian navy submarine on a test run over the icy White Sea. The weapon was a clear signal to the world that as Russia battles tightening economic sanctions intended to block Moscow's aggressive posturing on NATO's frontiers, President Vladimir Putin has another card to play.

"I want to remind you that Russia is one of the most powerful nuclear nations," Putin declared earlier this year at a state-sponsored youth camp. He reinforced the message last month, inviting the world to "remember what consequences discord between major nuclear powers could bring for strategic stability."

The debate over how to modernize America's aging nuclear forces has taken on increasing urgency with the emergence of a newly assertive Russia and a new generation of nuclear powers with increasing technological sophistication.

North Korea, Pakistan and India all are working quickly to improve their nuclear arsenals and delivery systems. By next year, China is expected to be capable of delivering a nuclear strike anywhere in the continental U.S. for the first time in its history — a threat that Russia has posed for decades.

While the nuclear confrontation between the United States and Russia cooled off after the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, it has never ended. Indeed, the long-held hope for continual reductions in nuclear forces now seems unattainable, nuclear arms analysts say. For the first time in years, the U.S. and Russia each have increased the number of nuclear warheads deployed over the latest six-month monitoring period — the U.S. by 57 additional weapons and Russia by 131.

Russia is spending $560 billion on military modernization over the next six years with 25% allocated to aging nuclear forces, part of a program to replace all of its Soviet Union-era launchers. U.S. officials say it will take at least $355 billion over the coming decade to upgrade America's nuclear arsenal and keep up with the rearmament spree underway in the rest of the world.

"Our rival powers are investing billions of dollars to modernize and improve their nuclear systems," said Maj. Gen. Sandra Finan, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center commander, warning that if the U.S. is "to remain credible," it must maintain nuclear preparedness as a priority.

But veterans of the Cold War also say tit-for-tat responses in nuclear confrontation carry grave risks, anchored to erroneous assumptions that a nuclear exchange would leave one side in better condition than the other.

"God help us if we ever need them," said Philip Coyle, a former nuclear weapons scientist, director of nuclear testing, senior Pentagon official and national security adviser.

The U.S. and Russia both continue to field land-based missiles that could be launched in a few minutes, submarine-based missiles able to deliver a devastating counterpunch to any surprise attack, and bombers that could loiter in threatening holding patterns above the Arctic.

A new strategic arms reduction treaty signed in 2010 limits deployed strategic warheads to 1,550 on each side, with a cap of 700 missiles and bombers by 2018. And over the last two decades, nuclear capabilities have been far from the U.S. military's top priority. Most of the attention has gone to high-tech conventional weapons that evolved after the first Gulf War. Two decades have gone by without developing a nuclear strategic weapon.

All the while, U.S. nuclear-capable bombers, submarines, intercontinental ballistic missiles and their launch-control bunkers have been allowed to become virtual Cold War museums.
A fascinating piece.

Content Warning: U.S. Aid Worker Peter Kassig Beheaded

This is the real thing: "Islamic State VIDEO Shows Beheading of American Hostage Peter Kassig (GRAPHIC)."

With this video the terrorists made sure to broadcast much more bloody graphic violence, lest Western audiences question the authenticity of the beheadings. Indeed, at least a dozen poor bastards get their throats slit, and then the terrorists pause, looking at the camera. Then we see the heads lined up on the bodies.

Not for the squeamish. But then, folks in the West ought not turn away uncritically, for then we abandon the will to defeat the evil. We must bear witness before gathering strength for the long fight ahead.

Obama Declares an Amnesty War

By Alan Caruba

The same mindset that could conspire to foist ObamaCare on Americans by deception is at work to do the same thing with an unconstitutional, unilateral announcement of amnesty for millions of illegal—oops, “undocumented”—aliens living in America.

What is amazing about this is that it was announced the day after the midterm election when Obama and the Democratic Party had suffered a huge rejection. I suppose when you believe, as Obama apparently does, that he is right when everyone else is telling him he’s wrong, moving ahead on amnesty now rather than waiting to work on legislation with the new Congress makes sense to him.

Only it does not make sense. Causing a constitutional crisis never makes sense.

At this point I think it is useless to try to get inside Obama’s mind regarding his actions. It’s like trying to understand the logic of a six-year-old. He does what he wants to do simply because he wants to do it. He ignores reality if it disagrees with his opinion about anything.
We all have two more years of this arrogance.

The voters have spoken and rather dramatically. As we get closer to Obama’s executive order it's good to see that Republican leaders are sounding more combative.

What exactly can or will the presumptive Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, do? What will John Boehner, House Majority Leader, do? They have, in fact, relatively few options. They dare not and do not want to shut down the government. They will not impeach Obama. They can, we’re told, defund aspects of an amnesty executive order. Ultimately, they are likely to fall back on a law suit against the White House based on the constitutional division of powers.

The midterrm elections showed us that the lies the Democrats told failed.

The effort to paint the Republican Party as obstructionists failed. The real obstructionist was and is Harry Reid who blocked more than three hundred bi-partisan and Republican pieces of House legislation from being debated or voted upon in the Senate. Neither he, nor any other Majority Leader should have that much power. The Senate needs its role for debate restored.

The claim that the Republican Party was waging “a war on women” or was racist was absurd.  The midterms saw any number of Republican women elected to office and African-American GOP candidates made history when they won. It’s no longer the Party of “old white men”, but a largely white component of all ages voted heavily in the midterms for those younger, diverse winners.

The Republican Party could not be in a stronger, better position than currently. Rarely mentioned is that what put them there is the Tea Party movement; a number of Congressional members elected by the movement are driving the response to Obama’s amnesty idiocy.

Six members, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Pat Roberts (R-Kansas), Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) and David Vitter (R-Louisiana) made it clear to Sen. Reid that “This will create a constitutional crisis that demands action by Congress to restore the separation of powers.”  The only thing Republican Senators are amenable to at this point is strengthening border security. They will not put forth any immigration legislation until after they take power in the Senate in January.

So, naturally, Obama wants them to do something now.

Only an idiot would say, as he did, that he “heard” what the voters said and then add he also heard what those “who did not vote” had to say. The only thing that matters in an election is who got elected and why. Hearing what voters who stayed home had to say is delusional.

Voters were so angered by the sheer incompetence of Obama and Sen. Harry Reid’s gridlock in Congress that they voted in a whole batch of new Senators and House members. Those they chose were predominantly conservative Republicans and that tells you a lot about the next two years until Obama is gone.

Obama has never liked Congress. He seems to resent having to share governing power with it. He about to launch an amnesty war as a way of acting out his resentment.

At this point, the Republicans in Congress know who they are dealing with and are in no mood for a compromise, nor expect one. Remember, though, it is the Republicans who are the grownups and what we are likely to see in the months ahead will be a number of reform measures and amnesty will be among them. Obama will be blocked on any number of other efforts that will harm the nation and the world.

After we celebrate New Year’s day the 2016 presidential campaigns will begin in earnest. The first straw vote in Ames, Iowa will take place in nine months!

Let Barack Obama have his amnesty war.

There is no lamer duck than the President. Whenever he speaks these days all you can hear is quack, quack, quack.

How Hard is This To Understand?

When I write about the issues of the day, I try to be plain spoken yet civil in my tone, but there are days when I really want to slap people around and scream “Why are you so stupid?” in their faces. This is one of those days. Christian students at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado have been told they can no longer meet to pray and sing hymns during their free time because it violates the Constitution. Yes that’s right, apparently they were in violation of Article VIII, Section 1, otherwise known as the Singing and Praying clause of the Constitution. As a Christian I try (and frequently fail) to emulate Christ, but I have recently been reminded that turning over tables and driving people out with a whip falls into the realm of possibilities.      (continue reading)
