[Don't know much about this writer, Anshel Pfeffer, except that he writes for far-left Haaretz in Israel and its kindred spirit in England, the hopelessly anti-Zionist Guardian. Therefore, I'll go out on a limb to say this story is meant to disparage Israeli society for its official snubbing of the American Reform movement. The Left in Israel thrives on these journalistic contortions. But politics is in the eye of the beholder and unwittingly the situation in Israel makes the story seem positive - if you are of sound mind, that is. df]
