Where's the U.S. Navy?............from Rico
Wow. Small world indeed! Kenney and I were junior Naval Officers together many years ago, but I 'lost' track of him.
- Nice to see he 'made' Captain.
- Better yet to see he's not changed and is not a knob-polisher* like so many rankers today are.
His 'diversity' comments? Spot-on-target.
- Actual MERIT has been replaced by a fake/theoretical concept, he and I have seen 'it' in action...total incompetents not only 'carried' but promoted by the system in the name of diversity.
I surely DO feel so much 'safer' with all those Admirals. Maybe we should make EVERY Officer an Admiral (and scrap all the ships to pay for it)..then we could be really-really 'safe' (in the sense that having Napolitano as Sturmfuhrer of Homeland Security makes us all 'safer').
Like Communism, diversity indeed kills. So does smug, clueless incompetence.

Not money...BETTER...............from Rico
Face it...if you have a pulse, you understand that as a nation (a) we're broke, and (b) while our professional politicians take care of #1 they are doing a HUGE #2 upon everyone else.
So, Benny of the Fed would have us understand that "gold is not money" but prettily-engraved bits of paper from a private bank are?
I sure wish Ron Paul would have agreed with him and retorted: Righty-oh laddy buck! It's BETTER than money!
Completely ignored is our Treasury that mints both gold and silver coins as money, but let's save that for another day.
- Better have an insurance policy against the incompetence of our politicians, the hard math of our situation, and the coming collapse of all those Uncle Sammy IOU's. Bond holders are going to take a 'haircut' just as surely as holders of US Dollar Federal Reserve Notes already are.

The pillow fight is ending.........from Rico
Someday this girlie pillow fight over the debt ceiling will end.
Eventually the gloves will come off, and the Government will save itself and all the sanctimonious, self-serving, self-righteous hypocrites that got us to this point
...but you and I will NOT be saved.
The purpose of Soetoro-Obama's speech was to bore us to death unless we fell asleep first. It was a distraction, and a huge LIE by omission.
- Berry's speech summarized: My fellow Americans...blahblahblah...stalemate...blahblahblah...runaway spending...blahblahblah...all Bush's fault...blahblahblah...compromise...blahblahblah...no more Social Security for anyone...blah...god bless you all. Is the camera off? Where are my cigarettes?
What was left out of the speech? A coupla minor things.
1. We're going to steal MORE money from you:
- The Government already has gone after the pensions of their employees and retired employees.* Grab your ankles, more is coming! Not only is the Federal system unfunded, but so are States and municipalities. When there isn't enough money, we will all be asked "to do our part" and in the spirit of "fairness" and social justice" [hear: Communism] they will also go after private retirement accounts.
*When Timmy of the Treasury needed some cash because he ran out of money, the first thing he did was raid Government pension funds to the tune of tens of billions of dollars. It bought some time, but it was a nasty precedent to set.
2. The debt ceiling needs to be CUT.
This chap & his cronies need to bugger off!
- Most Americans will join me in wishing them off with "and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way OUT!

Arabs Set a Trap For Themselves. Will Israel Close It?..........by Dan Friedman
Eban had it exactly backwards when he said “The Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.” It’s the Israelis who never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. For over sixty years the Jewish state has driven back serial Arab attacks meant to destroy her - and would have if any one had succeeded. Yet Israel has never once allowed herself to act like normal victors and make their defeated enemies pay a price. On the contrary, Israel has allowed the Nations to stay her hand, and over the last two decades Israel has brought its enemies back from the dead and given them the best arms and training American tax money could buy. Today, the Arabs are still hell-bent on destroying Israel - this time via the UN – and in the process it’s the Arabs who’ve walked into a trap. The only question now is whether Israel, for once, has the guts and wisdom to close it. Or, on the verge of victory again, will she be content to take home the booby prize – the tragic failure known as “Olso” – and let her mortal foes live to attack her again? df

Freedom of CHOICE......from Rico
Freedom of CHOICE is what (so far) separates us from the animals who submit to being 'TOLD' what to do, and who have NO CHOICE in the matter.
I CHOSE to volunteer back in the time of the 'Draft' because I insisted on choosing, and not being TOLD. Still do.
- I'm glad I did it, and would do it all over again...even knowing what I know now. To badly paraphrase Edith Piaf "no regrets" [how's that go? '...non rien rien, non je ne regrette rien...' or something like that in my tinny Teutonic ear anyway].
What is troubling is that so many have no understanding, or respect for, the very rights that have been so hard won and dearly paid for, instead defaulting to 'submit' [translation: Islam] when they still have the choice to say "lan astaslem" [I will not submit].

"Fast & Furious" Not The Movie, The Obama Fiasco..........by Dan Friedman
With most eyes turned to our president playing chickie with the ship of state, and for the past few days the tragedy in Norway, it’s easy to lose sight of another monstrous Obama debacle unfolding right under our noses. Known variously as “the gunwalker scandal” or “Fast & Furious,” its official operational name, it’s a federal law enforcement screw up for the ages whose trail is leading to the White House and Eric Holder’s door. If you’ve fallen behind the story, or never knew about it in the first place, it’s time to let CBS News (not a typo) bring you up to date.

Crisco & electrification.............from Rico
The electrification of America had many consequences, most of the good, and it took some ingenuity to overcome the obsolescence of an industrial product and turn it into a new profit center. Crisco was 'born' and marketed to the public which bought all the Madison Ave propaganda about this 'new' product.
The compound 'crisco' had mainly been used in the manufacture of candles until a new use had to be found for it.
I remember how my Grandmothers simply could NOT cook without it.
Since we are what we eat, I wonder how many people Crisco has killed to date?
- Crisco really is much worse for you than the olive oil or butter it replaced. It may have been the 'first' faux food foisted upon us, but it wasn't the last.

Obama is Boring Us to Death
About halfway into his fifteen minute televised address on Monday evening, it occurred to me that Obama is literally boring Americans to death. He was elected to a great degree based on his eloquence and he delivers a speech well, but last night’s speech is the one we have been hearing since January and earlier.
I really don’t give a hoot about “millionaires and billionaires.” Heck, I want to be a millionaire!
“Corporate jets”? What’s that all about? Even Playboy’s Hugh Hefner once had a corporate jet. I would love to have a private jet if only to avoid having to go through airport security these days.
“Corporate taxes”? US corporations pay the highest tax rates of virtually every other nation. Yes, they look for loopholes. You would, too!
“Hedge fund managers”? I don’t know any. Are they doing something criminal? No. They are making bets on the economy. Better that than blowing the money in a casino.
Peggy Noonan, a former speech writer for Ronald Reagan, bestselling author, and now a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, last Saturday wrote “The president, if he is seriously trying to avert a debt crisis, should stay in his office, meet with members, and work the phones, all with a new humility, which would be well received. It is odd how he patronizes those with more experience and depth in national affairs.”
And then she said, “He should keep his face off TV. He should encourage, cajole, work things through, be serious, get a responsible deal, and then re-emerge with joy and the look of a winner...” Noonan concluded saying, “he should choose Strategic Silence. Really, recent presidents forget to shut up. They lose sight of how grating they are.”
Obama’s first year in office was distinguished by his being on television all the time, from The View to late night comedy shows. He loves the camera, loves the attention, and loves himself to the point of an unseemly, off-putting narcissism.
Instead of taking Noonan’s advice, he has become the National Mosquito, always buzzing around somewhere in the room.
Why was the Monday night speech necessary? Both Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, a Democrat, and John Boehner, the Speaker of the House, a Republican, have concluded that Obama had to be cut out of the discussions regarding the necessity to raise the debt ceiling because he was a hindrance to achieving any deal. To put it more bluntly, both concluded that Obama could not be trusted.
Reid and Boehner have essentially cut Obama out of the process. They have asserted the independence and the role of the legislative branch. Together they will send Obama a debt ceiling bill and tell him to take it or leave it. If he finds a reason to veto it, they will over-ride his veto and the rest of us will know that Obama’s agenda has always been the destruction of the nation.
Obama’s polling numbers reflect the growing realization of his arrogance and his incompetence. The advisors he chose and the programs he initiated have all proved to be failures and very costly ones at that. Unemployment rates today equal those of the Great Depression. Millions are on food stamps. Economic growth is an anemic one percent or so. Even people who don’t listen to presidential speeches or follow the news that closely know he is a loser.
There will always be at least 20% of voters who will support Obama no matter what happens. They are the true believers, the core that Democrats have always depended upon, unions, minorities, and federal employees.
The political pundits all said that the speech was aimed at the independents, always the most critical factor in recent national elections. The problem for Obama is that the next election isn’t until November 2012 and people tend to have very short memories. A lot of voters don’t make up their minds until they are in the booth. A year and a half from now is an eternity for these “undecideds.”
The speech was a bore, a repeat of all the poll-tested words and phrases he will repeat between now and November 2012. He’s become a windup doll, the White House Chatty Cathy.
It would be nice if we could ignore him and millions of American wish they could. The bad news is that he’s not going away for at least a year and a half. The good news is that he’s about to be neutered by both the Republicans and Democrats in Congress.

The End of Israel's Hobson's Choices..........by Dan Friedman
David Goldman is a very smart fellow. Gets to the bottom of things, sweeps conventional wisdom aside. First man I read who suggested the “Arab Spring” was all about failing economies and the inability of the Arab countries without oil to meet their citizens’ basic needs, in which the “thirst for freedom” comes in a distant second. Here he shreds one of the Israeli Left’s great axioms: the two-state solution is the only way the Jewish state can remain Jewish. Hopefully, he’ll take on the Left’s other bogeyman: the two-state solution is the only way the Jewish state can remain democratic. The sooner he does the better, or I’ll have to do it myself. It’s time Israel took the gloves off along with the handcuffs. df
