Something is going on..........from Rico

I watch the US Dollar Index pretty closely.

"Something" is going on with the dollar. The divergence of the "traders" spread as positions are taken for the 'new' year 2010 concerns me (ignore the puny private traders, the blue line, which seem covinced a few points from the latest "low" means the trade is bullish again).

While I am convinced that the dollar carry trade remains intact for 2010, this chart bothers me.

I just have the 'feeling' that this will end badly. I'm still trying to figure out the details....
- And WHY does Soros propose that developed countries make IMF loans to the rest of the world (collateralized by the sovereign gold holdings of their central banks in the event these loans 'default'...hahahahaha). Translation='hock' our national gold reserves to the IMF to secure dubious loans to places like Somalia, et al, to 'save the planet' from global climate change? Sure smells like Socialist "wealth redistribution" to me.

Newfie Love Poem

Of course I loves ya darling
You're a bloody top notch bird
And when I say yer gorgeous
I means every single word

So yer ass is on the big side
I don't mind a bit of flab
It means that when I'm ready
There's somethin there to grab

So yer belly isn't flat no more
I tell ya, I don't care
So long as when I cuddle ya
I can get my arms round dere

No woman yer age
Has a nice round perky bust
They just gave in to gravity
But I know ya did what ya must

I'm tellin ya the truth now
I never tells ya lies
I think its very sexy
Dat you've got dimples on yer thighs

I swear on me grannies grave
From the moment that we met
I thought you was as good as
I was ever gonna get

No matter what you look like
I'll always love ya dear
Now shut up while the hockey's on
And get me a nudder beer.

Out with the old, In with..........from Rico

We've all heard the expression "out with the old, in with the new."

Put another way, how about "out with the old toxic debt, in with the new toxic government?"

OR

Forget about BANKS that are "too big to fail" and focus instead on a GOVERNMENT that is "too big to shrink!"

The Great Depression? Nawwwww...

With a seated Congress that is visibly racing one-another to not be last in line for The Great Gang-rape of the American taxpayer, you can pretty safely guess that unless something is done about them in Nov 2010 [like throw the bums out; read: if you're IN, you're OUT]
- nothing is gonna change for the better and the taxpayers had better get used to 'standing' while the tax-spenders and tax-consumers sit on their asses.

NEVER SURRENDER

Of the maxims of the Philosophy of STORMBRINGER:

'When you find yourself in a fight, the stupidest thing to do is ANYTHING BUT try to win, by whatever means possible.

When you and your team become involved in battle, you MUST have the mindset that there is NOTHING ELSE BUT to win, for the alternative is unacceptable.

When a nation finds itself in a war, to do ANYTHING BUT whatever it takes to win is beyond criminal; it is unconscionable.'

The Plan, The Scam, The Man

Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together?

THE SCAM

Here is what a learned friend had to say about Democratic Math. It's even worse apparently than I first thought:

It's way worse than that. Ignore all the gas crap and just look at how the stupid car buyer got taken to the cleaners:

If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 off for an apparent "savings" of $1000.

However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer will tell you). If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500.

So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds. In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.

But wait; it gets even better: you also got ripped off by the dealer. For example, in LA every dealer was selling a Ford Focus with all the goodies, including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the "cash for clunkers" program started.

When "cash for clunkers" came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before... (Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did).

So let's do the final tally here:

You traded in a car worth: $3500
You got a discount of: $4500
---------
Net so far +$1000
But you have to pay: $1350 in taxes on the $4500
--------
Net so far: -$350
And you paid: $3000 more than the car was selling for the month before
----------
Net -$3350

We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but let's just stop here..

So who actually made out on the deal? The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they "gave" you. The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies. The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before. And the poor, stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford.

Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in "free" money from the "government" when in fact, Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege.

Think this was stupid for those who were crazy enough to swallow this wonderful scheme?

Just wait until we get health care with no additional costs over what most of us now pay for health insurance and the best medical care in the world. Think that scheme might be designed by the same people who came up with Cash for Clunkers?

Ten for 2010.........

2010’s Top Ten Myths
By Alan Caruba

In no particular order, here are ten myths that will affect domestic and international policy in the year ahead.

1. Myth: Global warming is real. It was never real except for the natural warming cycle that occurred from 1850 to 1998 when the Earth became another natural cycle, but this time cooling.

2. Myth: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a danger to humans. This is the most pernicious lie that has been put forth by environmentalists and is the basis for the global warming lie. CO2 is vital to all life on Earth as it represents for all vegetation what oxygen is for all animals. This myth is the rationalization for Cap-and-Trade legislation.

3. Myth: The world is running out of oil. Not even close. New reserves of oil are being found on a regular basis. There is no substitute for oil as the basis for transportation and the many other products such as plastic for which it is the basic component.. Failure to access national reserves of oil such as that in ANWR or offshore in the U.S. continental shelf is criminally stupid.

4. Myth: Afghanistan is critical to the war on terror. No, sorry, all the real action is in Pakistan these days and, in the days to come, in Yemen. Few NATO members want to provide forces for action there for lack of confidence in its present government.

5. Myth: The future is in “clean energy” as opposed to “dirty” coal. Wrong again. If wind or solar energy could demonstrate any practical use beyond very small projects it would attract investment, but it does not. Dependent on unreliable factors and requiring a backup source of energy such as a coal-fired or nuclear plant, large scale applications are a huge waste of money.

6. Myth: The U.S. must become “energy independent.” No nation on Earth is energy independent. The U.S. has failed to encourage the building of a single new refinery since the 1970s and is failing to encourage the building of nuclear plants to meet the nation’s growing need for more electricity.

7. Myth: The government can create or “save” jobs. Wrong again. The only jobs government creates are government jobs. These are essentially managerial and often exist to justify the continued existence of government agencies that actually impede job growth or significantly interfere with the free market.

8. Myth: The financial crisis is not a significant threat. An economy whose annual gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to be $14 trillion cannot long survive a debt ceiling of $12.4 trillion as approved by Congress on December 24. That requires too much borrowing. Only less spending can ensure stability.

9. Myth: The United Nations is necessary for resolving international disputes. Historically the UN has repeatedly failed to stop conflicts since its inception after WWII. It has a long record of corruption and inaction.

10. Myth: President Obama tells the truth. Barack Obama’s first year in office demonstrated to his supporters, independents, and critics that he lies all the time about everything. The only promise he made that he is fulfilling is the transformation of the U.S. into a failed socialist economy.

Understated...............from Rico

UNDERSTATED is certainly not a word I would associate with Obama-Soetero. It IS a word I would use to describe the government "cooking" the books and fudging the numbers.
- After all, if you LOOK good, then you ARE good, right? Besides, it's easier to LIE than to actually BE any good.

Real vice 'official' unemployment? Follow the money.

The Daily Treasury Statement data shows the USG is understating unemployment by about
32%.

The chart shows either (a) that individual unemployment benefit checks have gone waaay up in amounts (not bloody likely), or (b) that there are a lot more checks being cut than we are being told.....the number of unemployed collecting benefits is about 14 million people and NOT the 'officially' reported 10 million people. The BLS and Treasury's collars and cuffs do not match. What's a 'little' balance sheet bubble in the big scheme of things?
- Forget that bubbles tend to 'pop' and ignore that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how this will end.

Management by perception. Lie to look good. It works better than actually doing anything positive about unemployment.
