The male (boar) raccoon has a penis bone (os penis) of ivory, which my ancestors have traditionally carved (whittled) into a toothpick to be kept, prominently and conveniently, in the small pencil pocket in the bib of their overalls. They are a meaty critter, and do not taste like chicken. For such a smart animal, it does not do well in traffic.
It is said that raccoons are the most familiar North American animal, and most people from foreign lands associate them with the United States. True, or hogwash?
